Canada’s defence community is facing one of the most complex security environments in decades. Threats are evolving rapidly – from cyber risks and data sovereignty concerns to the need for faster, more informed decision‑making. Defence organizations are being asked to modernize while maintaining readiness, resilience, and trust.

To help address these challenges, IBM Canada is strengthening its defence‑specific technology capabilities, bringing together AI, quantum computing, cyber resilience and secure infrastructure with deep industry expertise and collaborative frameworks to address Canada’s most pressing national defence priorities.

At the centre of this effort is the newly established IBM Defence and Intelligence Centre in Ottawa — a secure space where defence organizations, industry partners, and IBM experts can co‑develop, test, and apply mission‑specific solutions in alignment with Canadian defence priorities. This expansion enables stronger collaboration under governance and transparency practices that align with Canadian‑approved standards and client‑mandated controls, enabling systems and data to be managed in accordance with national requirements.

IBM Canada’s expanded defence technology resources and collaborative capabilities are designed to help Canada’s defence community improve readiness and resilience to deliver mission success. By combining advanced technologies with secure collaboration, IBM is helping defence organizations adapt to new challenges and seize opportunities in a rapidly evolving global landscape. These expanded capabilities are designed to provide the tools, expertise, and secure solutions needed to enhance operational readiness and deliver meaningful impact.

Among these innovations is the new IBM Defence Model, an AI‑powered solution developed with Janes, a global leader in defence intelligence. By combining IBM’s enterprise‑grade AI expertise with Janes trusted defence intelligence, the solution is designed to help Canada’s defence community accelerate planning, improve analytical accuracy, and respond confidently to evolving threats.

Addressing Canada’s defence priorities

IBM’s defence technology capabilities, industry expertise, and secure collaboration environments will help address Canada’s key defence priorities, including:

  • Operational readiness: Leveraging advanced technologies like AI and quantum computing to modernize systems, improve decision‑making, and enhance readiness.
