Disability in the Civil Service remains acknowledged and worried about, but somehow rarely the subject of sustained, joined up action to ensure consistently successful outcomes. And yet there is growing evidence from the private sector that a number of relatively simple steps can have a transformative effect.

Microlink are experts in the field of Assistive Technology, which helps to empower disabled employees to succeed and achieve their potential. They have enabled over a quarter of a million people with health conditions to succeed in education and employment.

In 2013, Microlink helped Lloyds Banking Group to re-engineer their ad hoc ‘reasonable adjustment process’ to create a carefully designed ‘workplace adjustment service’.

Over 3 years some 19,000 employees used the service from a total staff count of over 80,000. The results have been very significant for the group. 100% of managers and employees at Lloyds using the service would tell any organisation to do the same.

From dyslexia or arthritis to visual and hearing losses – whatever the condition – Microlink can assess, advise, supply, train and support anyone looking to break down a barrier caused by their conditions.

Here are some facts about Microlink’s performance for one it’s largest customers, Lloyds Banking Group:

  • Since 2013 Microlink have delivered just under 80,000 adjustments
  • Since 2015 Microlink have reduced average case duration from end-to-end to just 15 days
  • Microlink can typically reduce the average case cost by 53%
  • Microlink have also reduced costs by encouraging colleagues who do not have a disability or impairment – under the Equality Act – to use internal products available on their ergonomic catalogue, as part of a self-assessment.
  • Microlink achieved time and cost reduction in a year which saw referrals rise 5% higher than in 2014

And here is some of the feedback from users of the service:

Upon completion of workplace adjustments, Microlink have implemented a new digital real time evaluation process. Here are some highlights from 2016’s results*:
